Devon Thurtle Anderson
is an insurance lawyer with Heffernan Law Group in the Seattle area.  Devon's practice focuses on insurance recovery matters for policy holders, including insurance coverage litigation, in both Washington and Oregon. Devon represents policyholders regarding breach of insurance policy (contract) claims; Insurance Fair Conduct Act claims; Consumer Protection Act claims; insurance bad faith claims; and declaratory judgmentDevon takes a global approach to her practice, which also includes advising clients regarding all aspects of insurance coverage; assisting in development of insurance programs for new construction, renovation, and demolition projects; preparing and negotiating construction and design contracts; and handling matters at all stages of litigation and dispute resolution, including motion practice in state and federal courts and appellate briefing in contract and insurance matters. Mediation and arbitration are also an integral part of Devon's practice.

Devon earned her law degree with high honors from Seattle University, where she was a Member and Lead Editor for Seattle University Law Review and an Executive Member of the Moot Court Board. Devon also holds a Bachelor of Music with highest honors from DePaul University School of Music in Chicago, Illinois.  Devon is a native to the Seattle area, and maintains active involvement with the community.

Representative Cases/Matters:

  • Drove trial preparation and handled motion briefing as member of trial team in claim involving construction and design defect damages totaling more than $100 million.
  • Drafted $10 million design-build contract for deconstruction of mixed-use high-rise building.
  • Worked with in-house counsel and insurance agent to develop comprehensive insurance coverage program for international company manufacturing and selling architectural panels. Addressed insurance issues related to property, liability, kidnap and ransom, inland marine, auto, and other coverages, to apply both domestically and internationally.
  • Managed discovery in major construction and design defect litigation involving almost three million pages of documents and numerous parties and insurers.
  • Drafted architectural and engineering agreements for developer of $75 million mixed-use project.
  • Represented residential condominium developer in claims against insurance agent.  Recovered $200,000 for client.
  • Successfully achieved a rescission remedy for client regarding sale of a defectively constructed single family residence.
  • Represented municipality in claims against property insurer for damage to city property caused by dredging operations.
  • Represented residential condominium association against its property insurer for water intrusion and decay damage.  Recovered over $400,000 for client.
